Calico is a long awaited dream. Besides his stunning conformation, movement, and presence, he is also brimming with Welsh character. His lovely golden dun color and even markings add to the overall impression. He is everything we have ever looked for in a Welsh Cob, and we are so excited to have him as our foundation stallion.
It really is amazing how things work out. Thanks to a year spent studying abroad in Wales, helpful contacts from Helen Bandy and Becky & Tony Hering, and time spent getting to know some lovely welsh breeders, I was able to find the colt I had been searching for. Helen Bandy put me in contact with Helen Williams and Peter Rutherford, of Seiont Welsh Cobs, and because of their kindness and love for the welsh breed I was able to tag along to a number of sales, shows, and days spent at their stud farm in Caernarfon, Wales. With their help, and that of Helen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Williams, I acquired a better understanding of true Cob type and the bloodlines that I favored. Their own section C and D Cobs were stunning, talented, and kind, as well as from the best of bloodlines. Besides their own gorgeous homebred stallion, Seiont Gwythyrn, they were also standing at stud Ystraddewi Romeo. Romeo really caught my eye, with his old fashioned looks, commanding air, and gentlemanly disposition. After mentioning to Helen that I hoped to find a dun colt, we took a trip out to Chester, England to visit Fourways Stud. Upon meeting John Haywood, the owner of Fourways, I was introduced to the yearling colt Calico. I had never seen such a lovely yearling! His flair and playful nature captured my heart. Before I knew it I had purchased my first stallion and was impatiently awaiting his arrival to Oregon. He is now the prince of our small welsh cob farm and we look forward to promoting him and his future foals. Thank you to everyone for helping me find this amazing colt!
